Residential landmark on one of the most beautiful streets in Brno.
Jaselská is one of the most beautiful streets in Brno — and it is here that the new St. Augustine’s College House is being built as part of the city’s conservation area. As the general designer, we provide complete design solutions in an environment where precise coordination of professions and respect for the scale and character of the site are key. This is from the DUR to the author’s supervision.
The architectural design is based on the character of Jaselská Street. A place with a precisely defined scale, rhythm and memory. The result is a contemporary townhouse that respects the historicizing buildings and at the same time meets the demands of contemporary dormitory construction.
The new building fills an 82-metre-long plot between two buildings. It responds to the shape of the plot and the height difference towards the courtyard — the street facade is proportionate to the surrounding buildings, the upper floors are set back. The façade works with traditional elements of urban architecture: bay windows, balconies, cornices and French windows. The materials include lattice strips, stone lining, high quality plaster and glass arch portals.
Inside, it combines accommodation with community spaces, coworking, fitness and a café in an active parterre. There are parking spaces for cars and bicycles underground, and a recreational and sports zone under the mature greenery extends towards the courtyard garden.
